Field Hockey All-Area Teams Named By: David DeMarco 12/11/07 The All-Area Field Hockey Team was named December 9, 2007. Among the players awarded the opportunity to play on the All-Star Team was Salem's own, Sabrina Cary, a senior midfielder. "A selfless, defensive-minded player who helped frustrate some of the top offenses in the area," -- according to the Post Star; I couldn't have said it better myself. Named to the All-Area Second Team was Salem's Naomi Losee, one of the top defenders in the area. Also named for honorable mention from Salem was Rachelle Grover, Jamie Zwirm, Nikki Johnson, Kora Andrew, and Sasha McLenithan. Salem Field Hockey Beats North Warren By Justin Macquinn 10/2407 Salem played against North Warren on Tuesday in the Class C Quarterfinals of the section II Field Hockey Tournament. In the First 10 minutes Nikki Johnson scored to give Salem a 1-0 lead. Later in the first half North Warren tied it 1-1 with a goal from Ashley Schloss. Nearing the end of the first half, Katie Tift scored off a rebound for Salem to give them a 2-1 lead, Salem went on to win the game 2-1. Sabrina Cary led Salem with great defense in the second half. Salem now moves on to play Warrensburg on Saturday.
10/4/07 On Tuesday the Salem Generals field hockey team played Hoosick Falls. The General’s goalie, Kora Andrews, saved five goals keeping Hoosick Falls so that they didn’t score at all. Salem scored two goals, they were made by seniors, Mackenzie Levey and it was assisted by Niki Johnson and the other goal was scored by Sabrina Cary. The Hoosick Falls’ goalie rolled on the ball which is an automatic penalty shot. Sabrina Cary made the penalty shot and the Generals had another victory with a score of two zero.
By: Shannon Neil 10/1/07 With only 3:13 on the clock junior Cassie Skellie scored the only goal for Salem during Saturday’s game, the assist was made by senior Sasha McLenithan. With so little time left Glens Falls wasn’t able to score a goal. During the game Glens Falls made two attempts at the goal but goalie Kora Andrews blocked them both. Salem won the game 1-0. Salem is 5-4 this season. The JV game started out looking very exhilarating but about five minutes into the game it had to be cancelled do to thunder and lighting.
Salem Beats Johnsburg in Overtime By: Shannon Neil 9/24/07 On Saturday, Salem girls Field Hockey team was in North Creek playing a game against Johnsburg. At the end of the scheduled time, there wasn’t any score. The game proceeded into a dynamic overtime. Johnsburg made two attempts at the goal but, goalie Kora Andrews blocked both shots. Nikki Johnson scored the winning goal, assisted by Katie Tifft which won the game for Salem.
