New York Giants Win Super Bowl! By, Justin MacQuinn 2/6/08 The New York Giants win Super Bowl Forty-Two. The Giants came into the game as the underdog playing the New England Patriots who were on the verge of going 19-0, a perfect season. The Giants on a 10 game winning came in looking for their 11th straight road win. The game started off with the giants getting the ball first, and they got a field goal on their opening drive which would carry over to the 2nd quarter where the Patriots scored the first touchdown of the came on a 1-yard run play Laurence Maroney, making it 3-7. New York got the ball back which led to a great sideline catch by Amani Toomer, which later that drive on the Patriot’s 10-yard line, Eli Manning was intercepted by Ellis Hobbs, Manning’s only interception in the playoffs. The game stayed 3-7 until the 4th quarter. The Giants got the ball in the early 4th quarter where Manning threw a touchdown pass to David Tyree to end a great 80 yard drive. The Patriots then marched 80 yards where Brady Threw a touchdown pass to Randy Moss to leave 2:42 left on the clock, which looked like a 14-10 victory for the Patriots, But the Giants came out and drove 83 yards down the field, the drive was one the giants best this season, which featured a sack-avoiding scramble by Manning, which led to a Leaping catch by David Tyree which he caught and hung onto the ball with the top of his helmet. 2 plays after that Manning hit Plaxico Burress for a 13-yard touchdown with 35 seconds left; it capped a 17-14 win for the Giants. This made them the only NFC wild card team to win the Super Bowl. The Giants won all their away games in the playoffs including the Super Bowl win, which now the Giants finish with 11 straight won road games. |
